**General Description**
POSITION SUMMARY: The AI research team at Samsung Research America (SRA), located in Mountain View, CA, is looking for an outstanding and highly self-motivated research scientist. We are looking for candidates with expertise in deep learning, computer vision, robotics and language understanding. You will work with a team of research scientists and engineers tackling real-world problems involving Samsung's Artificial Intelligence initiatives. You can also have the opportunity to publish at top-tier conferences in deep learning, computer vision, robotics, and language understanding. As a research scientist, you will be involved in very promising team projects with talented people at Samsung. You will benefit a lot by working in a fun and creative environment. The AI research center is a key part of Samsung's global R&D; effort and aims to have influence on future Samsung products reaching hundreds of millions of users worldwide. We are looking for a highly creative Design Technologist to help us invent novel AI-based systems. Ideal candidates will have a blend of skills in experience design, interactive media and technical development, with strong interest in AI and pervasive computing technologies and experience working in real-world environments. This is a full-time position based in our Mountain View, CA office.
**Necessary Skills / Attributes**
RESPONSIBILITIES: Design and prototype rich, expressive user experiences and interfaces across multiple platforms to explore, prove and demonstrate new AI-based concepts, working as part of a close-knit multidisciplinary team. Perform research, ideation and design sprints to imagine new concepts and work out challenging problems, documenting what was done and what was learned. Contribute ideas to inspire and ground the team's work, and build constructively on ideas from other team members. Participate actively in project planning, inceptions, demonstrations and retrospectives. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant design, prototyping and development tools and trends. QUALIFICATIONS: Technical foundation in software development at the level of a BS or MS in Computer Science. Design foundation at the level of a BA or MA in Interaction Design, Interactive Telecommunications or Media Arts and Sciences. 3+ years of relevant experience with a history of interesting projects. Skilled at software development on multiple high-level client stacks such as Android/Java, iOS and mobile web, and in the use of REST and asynchronous APIs. Proficient at interaction design and prototyping for mobile, wearable and embedded systems with touch, conversational and multimodal UIs; solid knowledge of using structure, typography, color, sound and motion to convey intent and meaning. Non-trivial exposure to AI and pervasive computing topics and tools through previous work, formal education or informal side projects. Examples might include computer vision using OpenCV, Alexa skills for voice UI, chatbots using, Google context awareness APIs, TensorFlow for machine learning, Arduino-based physical computing etc. Excellent problem solving skills, technical judgment and design taste. Native curiosity and passion for hands-on creativity is a must.
