About The Opportunity

What you’ll do

Job Purpose

Directs a manufacturing site with responsibilities for all or a major portion of processing operations in a plant while ensuring cost, quality and schedule commitments are met or exceeded. Responsible for production operations, maintenance, plant engineering, safety, quality control, delivery, cost, production output, lean and process improvement. Promotes good relations with employees, community, government agencies and customers. Ensures administration of wage, salary, and bonus programs are in accordance with corporate policies.

ASTECH is projected to have an average headcount of 155 in 2018.


* Leads the development of business plans and objective to ensure successful implementation for the site.

* Provides day to day leadership to the various operations teams that have responsibility to manage cost, quality and schedule of each specific program.

* Ensures the on time delivery of products consistent with customer requirements.

* Establishes customer communication links at all levels in the buying chain. Establish Company credibility with customer audiences.

* Maintains continuous contact with Functional Heads and Value Stream managers to assure that new programs and projects support present and future business objectives.

* Responsible for the operations and site work activities. Support functions may be arranged in direct or indirect reporting relationships to a shared services model and/or integrated product team matrix.

* Completes key job requirements and other tasks related to this position as assigned by reporting structure management.

* Responsible for overall site budget as a cost center to the business cluster. Leads site operations and employees to achieve scorecard metrics and site financial outcomes.

* Understands financial principles and works closely with finance to ensure good accounting practices are maintained while obtaining financial goals.

* Directs, reviews, assists and develops both direct reports and others such as technical collaborators in a positive and supportive fashion.

* Human Resources & Compliance

* Provides leadership and direction with emphasis on team building through effective communications, in developing an efficient organizational structure that is responsive to strategic program requirements and changes.Must work effectively across divisions to ensure open communications.

* Complies with government regulations and the company’s Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action policies.

* Complies with the GKN Compliance and Ethics Policy on Contracting with the United States Government in all areas of responsibility involving direct and indirect contracting with the United States Government.Ensure subordinate staff are aware of the policy and their individual responsibility and accountability for complying with it.

* Prepares and conducts regular employee performance reviews with each member of the staff, at least on a quarterly basis. Likewise, ensures site staff conducts meaningful employee performance reviews.

* Maintains a safe workplace.

About you

Experience & Qualifications

* Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science or business management or operations; second or advanced degree in business and/or engineering preferred or equivalent experience and education.

* Minimum of 10 years of plant/operations management experience.

* Broad technical understanding of metallic materials, designs, processes such as welding, hot forming and heat treatment, manufacturing operations; assembly of aircraft components, and associated applications.

* Knowledge of government contracting process and proprietary contracts development.

* Proven track record of directing a site with annual sales of > $50M.

* Experience implementing continuous improvement activities resulting in improved processes both in manufacturing and office environments.

* Demonstrated ability to communicate and influence across functional lines within company and within client organizations.

* Must be able to manage highly skilled and experienced direct reports, and as leader of a team and function in a management capacity.

* Ability to direct, review, assist and develop both direct reports and others such as technical collaborators in a positive and supportive fashion is essential.

* Excellent written and verbal communications and interpersonal skills.


* MBA or MS degree in Engineering or science

* Management experience in an aerospace manufacturing industry

* Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing experience.

Specific Functional Competencies, Knowledge and Skills Required Essential

* Strategic planning, material management and logistics capabilities.

* Skills in establishing metrics and holding team members accountable.

* Knowledge in developing strategies to reduce costs and implement continuous improvement/lean initiatives.

* Ability to manage finished goods, work-in-progress, raw material inventories and consumption trends as well as interfacing with team on lead-time reduction for purchased parts.

* Strong knowledge of government contracting process and proprietary contracts development.

* Strong financial knowledge
